Novica Jambe Drum, 'samblung I'

Swirling in luxurious arabesque, a garden of samblung leaves whispers of indonesian forests. Images of this balinese plant adorn the base of a beautifully crafted jambe drum by khoirul anam. Hand carved from rich mahogany wood, it features a resonant drumhead of goastskin, affixed to the body with stout nylon ropes. To play the jambe drum, sit on the edge of a chair with ankles crossed, the top of the drum fitting neatly between the knees as the base of the drum rests behind the heels. This way the drum is angled away from the body. Sit up straight with hands resting on the drum's playing surface, wrists flat. With hands flat and fingers together, strike the drumhead either with fingers or with the heel of the hand. Avoid direct exposure to sun for a prolonged period of time to protect the leather. |
